Bamboo Airways – The Journey of a Private Airline in Vietnam
Vietnam's aviation industry has developed a lot over the past few years. For a long time, Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air were the two names that most people knew. Then, in late 2018, Bamboo Airways entered the market. At that time, becoming a new airline was not easy because there were already strong competitors. However, Bamboo Airways still decided to take the chance and build its own place in the industry.
From the beginning, the airline did not seem to focus only on offering cheap tickets. Instead, it tried to attract passengers through its services and the overall flying experience. Even the name “Bamboo Airways” has a connection with Vietnam. Bamboo is a very familiar image in Vietnamese culture. It is often connected with qualities such as being strong, flexible, and able to survive difficult conditions. The turquoise color used by the airline also gives the brand a fresh and modern look.
Bamboo Airways officially started its commercial flights on January 16, 2019, with a flight from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City. This was an important moment for the new airline. After that, the company started opening more routes to different parts of Vietnam and later looked for opportunities in international markets as well. During its early period of development, Bamboo Airways also operated modern aircraft such as the Airbus A320neo, A321neo, and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
One thing that made Bamboo Airways stand out was the way it approached its services. The airline wanted passengers to have a more comfortable experience, especially those flying in business class. The services included more comfortable seats, meals, and other facilities during the flight. Bamboo Airways also offered packages that combined flights with hotels and resorts. This made sense because the airline was connected to FLC Group, which also had businesses in tourism and resorts.
The employees were also an important part of the airline's image. The flight attendants were expected to be professional and polite, but the airline also wanted them to be friendly with passengers. This gave Bamboo Airways a style that was slightly different from simply focusing on the flight itself. The way staff treat passengers can make a big difference to their impression of an airline.
Technology also became part of the airline's operations. Passengers could use online systems to book flights and check in, while technology was also used to support the airline's daily work. Of course, an airline also needs a large number of trained employees, so Bamboo Airways paid attention to training pilots and other aviation staff. Environmental issues have also become more important in aviation, especially because airplanes produce a large amount of emissions. This is another area that the airline may need to pay more attention to in the future.
However, Bamboo Airways has not had a completely easy journey. The COVID-19 pandemic caused serious problems for airlines around the world. Flights were cancelled, travel was restricted, and the number of passengers dropped significantly. Bamboo Airways was also affected by this situation. After the pandemic, the company continued to face difficulties in its business operations and had to make changes to become more stable.
Even so, Bamboo Airways has still had an effect on the Vietnamese aviation market. Its appearance gave passengers another choice, while the competition between airlines became stronger. The company also tried to develop its own image instead of simply following the same path as other airlines.
Bamboo Airways still faces many challenges, and its future may not be easy. However, its story is still interesting. It started as a new private airline in a market where there were already strong competitors, but it still tried to find its own direction. The journey has included both good and difficult periods, but Bamboo Airways has become a noticeable part of Vietnam's aviation industry.
